Why we do what we do, & why you should too
If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you found the article on our social media pages or on a Qworker’s page. Before we go into it, let’s start with the basics- Qwork is pronounced like ‘twerk’, just with a ‘q’ (pronounced like a ‘k’) instead of a ‘t’ in front.
Less confused now? Let’s keep going.
Here at Qwork, we believe that what we do isn’t just a job- it’s a way of life. Qwork, simply put, is quick work. We are a platform that connects people with short-term, part-time jobs, also known as gigs. For instance, a chef could sign himself up under Qwork. When a job that requires him to cook for an event comes about, or work that allows him to cook once a week for a month is made available, he will be notified and hence, will have work to do at that time. It’s that simple!
You may be wondering, shouldn’t the guy just get a full-time job at a restaurant or something? A full-time job may be the safest and simplest source of steady income for some, but in this day and age it is no longer that simple. With the cost of living going up along with the many commitments that a typical millennial holds on to, the 9-to-5 just isn’t enough anymore.
That’s where gigs come in. A young person could finish work at 5pm and do a short driving job at night. They could also host people in the spare room of their houses during the weekend. If that sounds familiar, that’s because famous apps like Grab and Airbnb, which is what is described here, are also considered gigs! They too allow people like you and me to work ad hoc; when it’s needed, for a short amount of time, for a substantial amount of money.
In fact, the gig economy has been making its rounds in various countries across the world. While we see drivers and delivery people in a certain light here in Malaysia, gigs have become a normal -and essential- part of life for many worldwide. No longer is a full-time job seen as a mark of intelligence or success; in fact, most successful young people these days always start off doing multiple odd jobs in order to finance the life of their dreams.
Millennials especially are able to benefit from gigs best as gigs often are worked into one’s schedule. Instead of dragging yourself out of bed in the morning after a long night, some gigs only begin later in the day, which give you the option of sleeping in. A person who needs a little bit more this month and a little less next month can also opt to do more or less gigs according to their schedule and needs.
With Qwork making dozens of jobs easily known and available to workers who register on our platform, also known as Qworkers, it is easier than ever for young people to pick out what they want to do, when they want to do it, and how much they are able to earn in a month. Gigs are perfect for the millenial on the go, and Qwork provides the perfect platform for you to do it!
Besides basic jobs like driving and delivering food, Qwork also has gigs on sales, cooking, services and many more! The best part about a gig is that minimal to no experience is required for it, beside the basics of having proper etiquette and the necessary jabs if food handling is required. For the most part, anyone from any background, with any qualification, can qualify to be a Qworker.
Are you ready to get started on your adventure with Qwork? Here are a few steps on how you can join the dozens of Qworkers that have already begun gigging with us!
- Throw negative mindsets out the window
Before you make the next step, it is important to start with the right frame of mind. It is essential that you remember that gigs are not a bad thing! Many think that gigs are for the poor, for the uneducated and for those looking for lazy work. None of this is true in the slightest, and it is key to understand the reality of it.
Here is the truth: gigs help you live sustainably, are a means of making honest income from honest work, and are a way to supplement your lifestyle in a meaningful and worthwhile way. There is nothing to lose by diving into Qwork!
